Mingsan’s Brand Story

On a wooden tea table, different kind of tea lays in different bowls, ready to be tasted. Each has its special color and scent. Every day after school, before the little boy goes to play in the park, he is always asked to taste each cup of tea and share his thoughts. The training was conducted in a natural environment without pressure.

From Growing, Harvesting, Blending and Selling. Four Generations of Exquisite Tea- craftsmanship.

The boy's family has been tea farmers for three generations. They carry the fresh-harvested tea leaves all the way from the hills of Xin-Dian to Twatiutia. Back at that time, Taipei has just been established as the refinery and distribution center for Taiwanese tea. Master Gao, as the third generation, established Mingsan in Twatiutia with his father. They export most of their products to Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan.

In order to meet the export deal deadline, it is common for Master Gao and all of the tea chefs to stayed up late and work all night long. After finishing shipping the goods, Master Gao would take his daughters to the factory to play. "As the morning sunlight shines into the courtyard, the twigs and scrapes of tea leaves would scattered on the floor and filled the room with tea fragrance," this is a special memory for the Gao sisters. Furthermore, despite that Master Gao has to work long hours, he never forgets to bring a cake home on his daughters' birthdays. Sometimes, by the time he returned home, it has already passed midnight, so the belated birthday celebrations became the Gao sisters' unforgettable childhood memory. The loud noises made by the machines in the tea factory results in the hearing loss of master Gao. Carrying heavy tea bags that often weigh at least 60 kg also made his shoulders and back crooked.

Not long after the birth of the youngest child, Yu-Cheng, Taiwan's tea exportation business has reached its peak, and Mingsan has finally come over its most difficult time. Majored in philosophy, Yu-Cheng used to feel uncertain about his future. Yet, he was awakened to all possibilities as his professor told him, "There is virtually nothing that philosophy can't handle." After getting a philosophy degree, he took over the family business together with his elder sisters. His humble personality is similar to tea, slowly releasing the color and the fragrance in the water. The fourth generation of Mingsan begins.

From exportation to domestic wholesale, Mingsan insists to offer fine-quality tea at an affordable price for years. Yu-Cheng and his sisters have decided to follow this tradition, and also to create their own brand style. He is convinced by the phrase in the novel The Elegance of the Hedgehog, “accession to simple, authentic and refined sensations, a license given to all, at little cost, to become aristocrats of taste, because tea is the beverage of the wealthy and the poor'". The difficulty is how to sell at an affordable price while maintain its quality. Except from cheap bottled tea, hand-shake tea and high-price tea, is there any other possibility for people to taste good tea?
